Happy New Year...Goodbye 2009...Welcome 2010

New Year 2010...The Year of the Tiger

A Blue Moon on the night of December 31, 2009, may help New Year celebrators ring in the New Year of 2010....I am off to take a photo of the 'Blue Moon"

A blue moon is the "extra" full moon in years that have thirteen full moons. Most years have twelve full moons which occur approximately monthly, but in addition to those twelve full lunar cycles, each solar calendar year contains an excess of roughly eleven days compared to the lunar year. The extra days accumulate, so every two or three years (7 times in the 19-year Metonic cycle), there is an extra full moon. The extra moon is called a "blue moon." Different definitions place the "extra" moon at different times.

Taking off

Taking off, originally uploaded by Ladymaggic.
They were standing on the waters edge.
I took some photos, then they took off just as I clicked this shot.

I thought I was very lucky to see their beautiful and strong wings at the point of take off.

German Pointers on the beach

German Pointers, originally uploaded by Ladymaggic.
Two beautiful and elegant German Pointers were being walked along the sand.
The owner told me they were both old dogs, but they are still beautiful.

They reminded me of Maida, my favorite doberman, which is why I asked the owner about them.
She had style and elegance too, and excellent breeding.

German Shorthaired Pointers were developed in Germany as a multi-purpose gun dog, to replace the need for both a pointer and a retriever. Pointer refers to the stance a dog takes when it finds game and then strikes a rigid pose to indicate to its handler that there is game ahead.

Driftwood Trees on the Beach at Burrum Heads

This has to be the most amazing root I have seen.
It stands very tall and straight on the deserted sands.
A sentinel maybe and a lookout for the other trees.

Would a bird perch on its tip?
I wonder

The isolation was a complete here.
Once I walked past the rocks and where the children play on the swing branch, there were no people at all.

The beach is like being on a private island.
I felt the peace of the land as I walked along the sand collecting shells that are strewn on the waters edge.

I wished I had brought my book and a picnic lunch.
I plan to do this very soon, and a towel to swim too.

There are a few live shells here but they are the very small helmet shells. They pull their way along the sand when the tide recedes.
They are the first live shells I have found along this very lonely coast.

Driftwood Trees on the Beach at Burrum Heads

This tree was under water when I walked past, and out on the sand when I returned as the tide had gone half out.

Amazing sculptures on the beach as you walk 90 minutes out of Burrum Heads towards Toogum and Sereniya Beach.

High tide....the Tide was going out

Tide going out, originally uploaded by Ladymaggic.

Low tide at Burrum Heads on the 26 December was 1.56 at 9.42.
and High tide was 2.84 at 15.34

I started walking at around 3.30, so I caught the turning of the tide.
It was very windy at the beginning, I saw the boats turning with the tide change.
This would have been high tide for today as it was only 2.84m

Stump at Burrum

I went walking looking for the Historical 'Stump'
Alas, I found a couple...

I must find the Book about the History to learn which stump is the original stump.

The tide was actually going out when I started the walk at High Tide.
When I walked back it was to a totally different scene, as the tide was half out.

The dead trees lie on the beach.

The tide was going out as I walked past here and the tree was under water.
When I came back, the tree was on the sand.
